Joliet and Naperville Facelift Procedures
No matter how careful you are, your face takes a beating. It confronts the weather extremes of the Chicago area. It registers the stresses of your day to day life. It bears the brunt of sleepless nights. And it shows the effects of the years passing by—the pull of gravity combined with a normal loss of skin tone and elasticity.
Today, more and more women and men are choosing to have a facelift, or rhytidectomy, to combat the effects of time. Adults in their 40's, 50's and 60's belong to generations of people who have grown up taking good care of themselves. They exercise, eat well and keep active and involved with work, community, friends and family. They want their appearance to reflect their vitality and outlook on life.

The Facelift or Rhytidectomy Procedure in the Greater Chicago Area
A facelift tightens and lifts the lower face and neck in a procedure that normally takes a few hours. Dr. Rios makes incisions inside the hairline and around the ear, meaning your scars will be very minimal or even invisible after surgery. He tightens the muscles underneath the skin and may remove fat to bring back clean facial lines. Then he pulls the skin up, removes skin that is no longer needed, and puts sutures and drains in place.
It's important to note that a facelift will not change the look of your face or its features, except to diminish the effects of the passing years. You will still look like you, just younger and fresher. You should also know that a facelift treats the lower portion of your face and neck and won't do anything, for example, to change the look of your eyes as in eyelid surgery. Sometimes facial cosmetic surgery procedures can be combined.
Your facelift won't stop working one day; it effectively turns back the clock 5-10 years. That doesn't mean you'll never think about having another face lift, however, since the clock continues to tick. But far into the future your face will continue to look younger than if you had not had a facelift, no matter how old you are.
Dr. Rios is a Joliet and Naperville plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He schedules his patients for two pre-op consultations instead of the usual one visit, emphasizing a thorough educational process. He will spend all the time you need planning your facial cosmetic procedures with you, and he will answer all your questions no matter how many you have.

After Your Joliet and Naperville Cosmetic Surgery
Your facelift recovery will very likely be straightforward and free of complications. Post operative discomfort tends to be minimal, though you may experience some amount of numbness for a few days. If you follow Dr. Rios' directions, you can expect to be feeling good almost immediately and looking great in three weeks or less.
Dr. Rios will remove your dressings and drains the day after your facelift. You can shower and even wash your hair the next day too. Your stitches will come out a few days after your procedure.
There are some specific post-op instructions Dr. Rios will ask you to follow. He'll have you sleep with your head elevated for 2-3 days, for example, and avoid bending over and lifting heavy objects. You'll also receive instructions for cleaning your incision sites. Common sense applies to your post-surgical period as well. You'll need to take care of your face by being careful when you turn your head, pull on tight-fitting tops and brush your hair for two to three weeks. Dr. Rios will give you complete instructions for making your recovery period smooth and speedy.
You'll need to allow time for your face to settle in to its new shape. Most people feel they can return to work in about two weeks, but it may take a bit longer for all bruising to fade and stiffness to disappear. Patients generally report their faces feel completely natural and normal after several weeks.
Risks of Facelift Surgery
Risks associated with facelifts are fairly minimal, however, facelifts are surgical procedures and all eventualities must be considered. Dr. Rios will discuss the rare possibility of medical complications with you during your consultations. Whether the results of your facelift will be satisfactory depends highly on your expectations, how prepared you are for the post-op period and whether you follow Dr. Rios' instructions.
When it comes to Joliet and Naperville plastic surgeons, we recognize you have a choice. A hallmark of Dr. Rios' practice is the open, honest relationships he seeks with all his patients. During your two consultations, Dr. Rios will discuss the various aspects of your procedure in light of your goals, your health and your expectations. He will give you a realistic view of the results that await you and ensure you have ample time to ask questions and think through your options.
