This 30 year old mother came to her Naperville area cosmetic surgery consultation after her breasts had decreased in size following pregnancy. When I performed the physical exam that is part of the consultation process, I noted that she was a full C, but she reported wearing D cup bras while she was pregnant. She enjoyed having a fuller breast appearance before her child was born and wanted to increase her breast volume. It is not uncommon for women to want to return to the breast size they had during pregnancy, particularly if after childbirth the breasts have begun to sag or take on a "deflated" appearance. We discussed her implant options and after reviewing both saline and silicone gel models, she decided that silicone gel implants looked and felt more natural. We also spent some time discussing implant placement. I recommended submuscular placement, which makes the implants less noticeable and which also has been shown to possibly reduce the chance of capsular contracture, or hardening of internal scar tissue around the implant. During surgery, I placed a 450 cc silicone breast implant in each breast. Because I noted that she had good breast symmetry overall, I did not feel it was necessary to use implants of 2 different sizes. After her plastic surgery near Naperville, she is now a full D to DD breast size.
