Rhinoplasty Joliet and Naperville Nose Surgery
People in the Chicago area seek nose surgery, technically called rhinoplasty, for a variety of reasons. Some need the procedure to correct a medical condition such as difficulty breathing. Other people contemplate nose surgery for cosmetic reasons. A few want to enlarge their nose; some just want to smooth out a bump along the bridge.
The majority of people who think about having the procedure want to reduce the size of their nose. If you are one of them, you have probably been dreaming about a new nose for years. Rhinoplasty in Joliet and Naperville
There are hundreds of thousands of faces in the greater Chicago area, and each one has a nose that's unique. Consulting a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Rios can ensure your procedure will be designed to fit you and your individual needs.
Sometimes nose surgery can be performed entirely within the nostrils, meaning the small incisions won't show at all. In other cases, Dr. Rios will prefer to make incisions around the nostrils at the bottom of the nose. In that instance there will be very small scars but no one should see them. In either case, the doctor will separate the skin from underlying tissue, re-sculpt the bridge, tip and/or nostrils, and suture the skin back into place.
These cosmetic surgeries usually take one to two hours, depending on how extensive the changes need to be. They can be done in an outpatient facility or hospital, and can be under local or general anesthesia.
Your pre-op consultations with Dr. Rios will be very important. You will want to communicate your expectations openly and clearly. Dr. Rios will listen and provide honest feedback based on his expertise. He will discuss with you how to prepare for your recovery and work toward a great result.
After Your Joliet and Naperville Rhinoplasty
At the completion of your surgery, Dr. Rios will apply a splint and dressings to your nose to protect it. These will be removed over the next few days as you have your post-op check ups.
Just as he does with all facial plastic surgery patients from Naperville, Frankfort, and greater Chicago, Dr. Rios will send you home with instructions to keep your head elevated and apply cold compresses to help reduce swelling and bruising. You may experience minor pain and a headache for a day or two; these conditions can most likely be handled with ibuprofen.
You'll want to refrain from any activities that raise your blood pressure for a few days to a few weeks. Dr. Rios will let you know when you can start adding physical activities back into your normal routine.
After your rhinoplasty, you'll need to be prepared for swelling and bruising to increase for a few days before starting to subside. Most people find they look their worst a few days after surgery. The best thing to do is arrange to stay home for at least a week or so if you can. You'll probably be feeling relatively good, but you may not be comfortable in public for one to two weeks.
Risks of Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty risks are minimal indeed. Just like other surgical procedures, there are slight risks such as bleeding and infection, but very few of Dr. Rios' patients experience these complications. Nevertheless, your consultations will include discussion of all the possible risks and Dr. Rios will make sure you understand them and are prepared just in case.
There is a small amount of risk that you'll need additional surgery. The body's healing processes are unpredictable and in rare cases another procedure is needed to correct a result such as an asymmetrical look. Dr. Rios will also share information on this kind of risk during your pre-op visits.
One thing you should definitely be prepared for is the need to be patient with the healing process. Though you will be looking better a couple of weeks following your surgery, it can take weeks, even months, for all the swelling to disappear and your tissues to settle into their permanent place. Keep in mind that your final nose will emerge over time and you'll be increasingly happy with your new look as the weeks go by.
